What to Expect

Your day begins with pick-up from Lyttelton Port.

Enjoy a guided exploration of Christchurch, New Zealand’s Garden City. Learn how the city has transformed following the 2011 earthquake as historic landmarks, contemporary architecture, river corridors, and green spaces reveal a story of renewal, creativity, and resilience.

Depart the city and travel through rolling farmland and coastal landscapes, with engaging commentary from your guide bringing local history, geology, and rural life into context.

Arrive at Glenafric Farm for exclusive, behind-the-scenes access hosted by the Hoban family. Set against sweeping coastal views over the South Pacific, this immersive visit invites you to experience day-to-day farm activities, watch sheepdog and sheep-shearing demonstrations, handle raw heritage wool, and learn about its significance to New Zealand’s agricultural history.

Meet a fascinating mix of livestock, including friendly Donny the miniature horse, and encounter one of the world’s rarest Merino sheep breeds, originally from the Sub-Antarctic Campbell Islands. Discover the region’s remarkable geology with the opportunity to see and touch a fossil dating back 10–12 million years, unearthed on the farm’s own beach.

Enjoy a thoughtfully prepared picnic lunch in a warm rural setting before continuing into the celebrated Waipara Valley. At George’s Road Winery, enjoy a hosted tasting with the cellar door team, sampling refined regional varietals including Pinot Noir and Riesling.

In the late afternoon, return to Christchurch with complimentary drop-off at Lyttelton Port .

2) Amazing trip! Great views, such kindness and the sheep farm was superb! The wines are also really great and the farm and the vineyard has breathtaking views. Our driver Simon, the nicest! Super recommended! Solo, or in groups, this was a great experience.”

3) This wine and farm tour was wonderful. We got to feed sheep and donkey and see the wool from three varieties of sheep and travel around the farm. Learned a lot. Wonderful lunch with a close up visit from some of the local cows. Then a lovely trip to a winery and sampling along with a couple from Australia. We would recommend this for other visitors.

4) Again. Thank you so much. Great work on your part.”

5) We had a very nice time on our Glenafric Farm tour a couple days ago.

6) One of the things that was very interesting and made this trip even better was the Vintage Tractor museum that we got to spend some time viewing and asking questions.

7) Again, an OUTSTANDING visit to the Glenafric Farm, and all the other places we also had a chance to visit that day. At the Farm we had a nice visit with two of the owners and got to watch an interesting show of how Shearing is done nowadays at a smaller family run farm. We also had a chance to watch the herding dogs in action, which is very impressive, and they surely work hard to keep all the sheep moving along in the right direction, and at the right time.

8) Our Driver / Guide Simon was also great! He really knows all about the entire area, and was so good at keeping things on track that day. The provided lunch, local produce was also very large and tasty, and even came with some edible flowers from the garden of the person that makes this incredible lunch.”

9) This was a great look into a family-run sheep farm. I was very happy that the tour was not cancelled even though I was the only person on the tour, due to a cruise ship not arriving in Christchurch as expected. I got to watch sheep herding, sheep shearing, and the highlight of my bottle feeding a lamb. Tour included a stop to pick up a box lunch and to see for ourselves the local produce included – in Zoes garden!
