Dunedin – City Sightseeing Excursion

Experience the city of Dunedin, New Zealand’s ‘City of Firsts’, from Scottish settlement in 1848 to the present day, enjoy a half day sightseeing tour of this beautiful city. The tour cost includes your transfers to and from the port.

Overview

An Excursion that will show you the best of Dunedin on this 3.5 hour city sightseeing tour. Highlights include: Baldwin St, Botanical Gardens, University of Otago, Olveston Homestead Gardens, Dunedin Railway Station and the Octagon, our city centre where we allow 30 minutes free time for shopping, dining or just soaking up the atmosphere. We may also visit the Speights Brewery Shop, First Church and many other interesting heritage and artistic sites.

This excursion is fully guided with a friendly knowledgeable driver guide. We stop at many of the above places so you have time to get out and take photos, breath in the views and even have a go at getting to the top of Baldwin Street, the World’s Steepest Street!

Tour usually starts at 10am and back to the ship by 2pm. Meet us inside the Visitor Terminal Building on the ship’s wharf. All our cruise ship tour times will adjust to your particular cruise ship docking times.

What You Can Expect

While your cruise ship is in port, discover the historical roots of Dunedin, the second-largest city in New Zealand’s South Island. Start your shore excursion with port pickup and board your comfortable coach for a sightseeing tour.

Hear commentary detailing Dunedin’s history as you motor around the hilly city, which overlooks the Otago Peninsula. Pass by Baldwin Street, considered the world’s steepest street, and get a glimpse of the harbour. View the University of Otago, the neoclassical Dunedin Town Hall and Renaissance Revival–style Dunedin Railway Station as well as opulent banks, theatres and 19th-century edifices.

Following your free time in the central city re-join your guide in the afternoon aboard the coach, and the return drive to the Dunedin port.  On your return there will be time  to explore Port Chalmers where you can discover a vibrant village with a wide range of art & culture from potters and sculptors to painters, musicians, jewellers and fashion designers and then make your way back to board the Ship.
