A small group excursion from Wellington to Martinborough, one of New Zealand’s renowned wine growing regions, via the Hutt Valley and through the remarkable and majestic Remutaka Ranges. Once in Martinborough you will visit 3 vineyards and taste their wines. The wine tasting is included in the cost.

An opportunity to explore the Martinborough Wine Region whilst your cruise ship is berthed in Wellington.

This is a small group excursion, maximum 11 and minimum of 2 people with your experienced and knowledgeable driver guide.

This tour offers a leisurely wine-tasting experience while travelling through the rural countryside, as you travel northeast from Wellington city towards Martinborough via the Hutt Valley, your guide will point out some of the film sites from Lord of the Rings, including Helms Deep, Minas Tirith, River Anduin and Rivendell along the way including a 20-minute drive over the majestic Remutaka Mountain Range noting relevant history to sites and landmarks.

On your arrival to the Martinborough region you willvisit three of the region’s top wineries to enjoy their Cellar Door experiences and sample world-class wines. Your driver guide will provide narration and share local knowledge about this stunningly beautiful area throughout the journey. You will have the opportunity to taste a wide range of wines from Martinborough which is renown for its Pinot Noir, Syrah, Pinot Gris, Chardonnay, Riesling, Gewürztraminer & Sauvignon Blanc.

The excursion includes a local artisan deli C’est Cheese for an optional cheese tasting.

Experience Martinborough Wine Tours From Wellington!
Martinborough is a popular destination approximately one hour’s drive from Wellington City. It is characterised by quaint little towns dotted between rolling fields of sheep, olives and grapes – all set against a panoramic mountain backdrop- and is located at the centre of the Wairarapa wine region.

This easy-paced tour offers a leisurely wine-tasting experience while traveling through our rural countryside.

You will be picked up from your meeting point and whisked out of the city on a fast moving motorway. We will then wind through the picturesque Hutt Valley, and along the way I will point out some of the filming sites of Lord of the Rings, including Helms Deep, Minas Tirith, River Anduin and Rivendell.

A twenty minute drive over the Remutaka Mountain Range will bring us into the tranquillity of the Wairarapa region. Ten more minutes of travelling and we arrive in the award -winning wine region of Martinborough. While small in terms of total wine production, Wairarapa’s boutique wineries have big international reputations for the quality of their Pinot Noir wines, which is a notoriously difficult wine to make well.

We will visit three of our favourite wineries and listen to the wine makers explaining with passion the history of their wines and inviting you to taste a variety of them.

Your wine tasting will be matched with a delightful gourmet lunch platter (not included in price) that will leave your taste buds tingling.

The Martinborough experience is topped off by visiting C’est Cheese in Featherston where you can indulge in an impressive selection of award winning cheeses.
