From Tauranga, we travel south to the geothermal wonderland of Rotorua making our first stop at the fantastic Te Puia complex. Join your knowledgeable guide on a journey through Te Puia, where boiling pools of mud bubble away, hot pools simmer and awe-inspiring geysers blast steam metres into the air. Learn about its unique Māori history and cultural impact on the region followed by a Māori cultural performance.
After Te Puia, you will pass extensive kiwifruit orchards on route to Rotorua with your guide explaining how this fruit became a kiwi icon. Discover more about the province and see why it is such a popular place to live. Finally, you’ll be taken on a tour of Rotorua’s interesting city centre with its famous landmarks such as Government Gardens, the Bath House, Blue Baths and the lakefront.
Highlights of Te Puia:
A fully guided tour where you will see geysers explode high into the air, viscous mud pools bubble away and boiling hot pools simmer endlessly. You will only get those iconic geyser photos at Te Puia where you are up close and personal with many of the geothermal features.
Experience an awe-inspiring cultural performance from a local Māori group. The 30-minute concert includes a powhiri (welcome) onto the Marae (meeting house), as well as traditional songs and dances. You will see the famous Haka (war dance) – guaranteed to send a shiver down your spine!
Spot the elusive kiwi in the nocturnal enclosure. These shy birds are our national icon and are now endangered.
Watch craftsmen and women learn their trade in the newly refurbished carving and weaving schools. The apprentices here are keeping their customs alive.
Unfortunately, this tour is not suitable for users of mobility scooters or wheelchairs as there is no storage capacity on the minibus.

Some walking is involved on well made paths with gentle inclines

Children/infants must have a valid ticket to travel. Under NZTA law each person is counted as part of our loading limit. Please note that for safety reasons we recommend you bring a suitable child/infant seat.
