Overview

Overview

An Excursion that will show you the best of Dunedin City on this 3.5 hour sightseeing tour. Highlights include: Baldwin St, Botanical Gardens, University of Otago, Olveston Homestead Gardens, Dunedin Railway Station and the Octagon, our city centre where we allow 30 minutes free time for shopping, dining or just soaking up the atmosphere. We may also visit the Speights Brewery Shop, First Church and many other interesting heritage and artistic sites.

This excursion is fully guided with a friendly knowledgeable driver guide. We stop at many of the above places so you have time to get out and take photos, breath in the views and even have a go at getting to the top of Baldwin Street, the World’s Steepest Street!

Tour usually starts at 10am and back to the ship by 2pm. Meet us inside the Visitor Terminal Building on the ship’s wharf. All our cruise ship tour times will adjust to your particular cruise ship docking times.

Highlights

  • Dunedin sightseeing tour
  • Admire Otago University, the Botanical Gardens, beautiful homes and other historic buildings
  • Learn about Dunedin’s history and architecture
  • Experience wonderful views of Otago Peninsula & Harbour
  • Free time in the central city
  • guaranteed on-time return to your ship

What You Can Expect

While your cruise ship is in port, discover the historical roots of Dunedin, the second-largest city in New Zealand’s South Island. Start your shore excursion with port pickup and board your comfortable coach for a sightseeing tour.

Hear commentary detailing Dunedin’s history as you motor around the hilly city, which overlooks the Otago Peninsula. Pass by Baldwin Street, considered the world’s steepest street, and get a glimpse of the harbour. View the University of Otago, the neoclassical Dunedin Town Hall and Renaissance Revival–style Dunedin Railway Station as well as opulent banks, theatres and 19th-century edifices.

Following your free time in the central city re-join your guide in the afternoon aboard the coach, and the return drive to the Dunedin port.  On your return there will be time  to explore Port Chalmers where you can discover a vibrant village with a wide range of art & culture from potters and sculptors to painters, musicians, jewellers and fashion designers and then make your way back to board the Ship.

A Good Option

We wanted to see Dunedin yet have some free time to look around the city and do some shopping. This tour was great, had a fully guided tour of Olveston House and then had free time to ourselves in the city. In the afternoon did the fully city sightseeing tour which was very informative and extremely interesting. It was the perfect option for us.

We had only 6 people (I think) on the tour of Olveston House. A wonderful experience, especially as being a small group. Others arrived and were rushed through all the rooms. Our driver allowed us plenty of time to see everything. Our driver then took us for an extensive drive around Dunedin. Beautiful place.

This tour was above expectations. Olveston House is not like a lot of other heritage building tours. The building itself and the story behind it is fascinating. The people who work there are so passionate about their building and their city. It is a very friendly, interesting place to visit. The pickup was prompt and hassle free. The tour bus driver was friendly and had a wealth of local knowledge. We booked this tour for a land day while cruising and it ended up being just a small group tour, so it was almost like having your own chauffeur driven tour at a fraction of the price for similar tours that we could have chosen. I would recommend this tour and this company to all other travelers.

We had an excellent tour guide who has lived in Dunedin for years. We also enjoyed a semi- privated tour of the Olveston House. For the value, you get a magnificent tour and with the complimentary pick up and drop off at the Port you save on having to pay for the cruise ships shuttle service into the city, which is quite expensive!!
