Experience the very best Dunedin and the Otago Peninsula has to offer with a shore excursion offering sightseeing of both Dunedin City and the Otago Peninsula, with a wildlife cruise around the heads of Otago Harbour where you will see the albatross and a host of other marine animals and bird life. Following your wildlife cruise, your tour moves onto the Royal Albatross Centre with time for lunch in the centres cafe (optional extra) prior to a guided tour of the Royal Albatross breeding sites. A unique, not to be missed chance to visit the world’s only mainland breeding colony of the magnificent Royal Albatross.
09.00: You will be collected from your cruise ship at Port Chalmers and travel through the beautiful Otago Peninsula to enjoy a very informative, entertaining and scenically stunning tour of Dunedin City. The tour will include Otago University, Botanical Gardens, historic buildings, neo-gothic church architecture and cathedrals, stately homes, and the world’s steepest street with plenty of great photo opportunities. The tour will then head out onto the harbour to Wellers Rock with magnificent sightseeing on route.
11.15: Arrive at Wellers Rock and join the Monarch Wildlife Cruise. This one hour cruise travels from the inner harbour out around the heads of the peninsula where the unique Royal Albatross with their huge wingspan can be viewed along with a host of other marine animals and bird life such as fur seals, dolphins, and little blue penguins.
12.45: Following the wildlife cruise, you will explore the Royal Albatross Centre where there will be time for lunch (optional extra) in the centres cafe’s. After lunch you will join a 60 minute unique guided tour, where you can view the Royal Albatross and learn about the history of this unique region of New Zealand. Witness the fascinating social and family life of the breeding colony and have the chance to be awed by the soaring three metre wingspan of the birds flying above. Tour includes a short film, information on albatross breeding life cycle and colony viewing from our exclusive observatory.
16.00: The tour then returns you to Port Chalmers and your cruise ship in plenty of time prior to the ships departure.
